About Us

Not Just Meat Heads

Steve Cook, owner and operator of Cook Beef Cattle, always dreamed of running his own beef cattle operation when he acquired land in the Texas Hill Country. What started as an investment in a few acres has since grown into 7 cross-fenced pastures, 15 head of cattle, setting up shop at local farmer markets and weaving cows into any conversation he can – much to his children’s dismay.

Steve graduated from Battle Ground to Breaking Ground (BGBG), a USDA program run by Texas A&M Agrilife Extension, that helps Veterans learn about different agricultural enterprises and develop a corresponding business plan. He currently serves as a mentor with the BGBG program to share his wealth of knowledge with others who are interested in learning more about the industry. He regularly attends various Texas A&M Extension programs, Texas A&M Beef Short Course, and other learning opportunities to incorporate best practices into the ranch operation.
